Four Act film narrative structure

Act1 - Ordinary World: We meet the hero in their 'natural environment and get to know something about them

Key Plot Point #1  - plot spirals out of control

Act2 - Netherworld: the hero is moved into a world that seems strange and unfamiliar (sometimes morew to us than the hero)

Pinch - a point of great tension at the center of the film (but not necessarily something that spirals the plot out of control , so NOT a key plot point)

Act3 - The Kingdom of Evil: Here evil rules and the hero struggles unsuccesfully to combat it (often both internally and externally)

Key Plot Point #2   - plot spirals out of control

Act4 - Return to the Netherworld: The hero now goes after his nemesis (the antagonist). This act contains...
  • the final confrontation
  • Denouement
  • Climax
  • Resolution
